Leading a raid prepares you to teach kindergarden.

Most of the time when my raid screws up I do the usual. Yell, scream, insult, threaten their families, etc. But sometimes I find it necessary to stop things, get everyones attention, and explain things as slowly and as simply as possible.

“Now, boys and girls, when I tell you that the tank is going to take a lot of amount of damage at the beginning of the fight, what are you going to do?”

“Um, watch TV?”

“No. Anyone else?”

“Heal him?”

“Yes! Very good! And when do we heal him?”

“When the monsters are all gone?”

“No. We want to heal much, much sooner than that. In fact we want to heal him before he even takes damage. That’s called preemptive healing. Can you say preemptive boys and girls?”

The funny part is. This gets through to them. When they screw up and I chew them out, I think they just screw up again to spite me. Bastards.

As an officer and co-RL in a previous guild, I often felt more like a babysitter than a leader.

I think the most frightening day of my time spent guild leading was when I found out that the reason I felt so much like a babysitter is because I WAS the babysitter. My guild had an overly simple invite process and somehow our “mature” guild had acquired a good 25+ kids ages 10 to 14 mostly from Canada, who had decided I was a good influence to them when I was gone for a week between Christmas and new years. I was the “authority figure” they apparently needed and loved to have… As an authority figure my job was apparently to instruct them and scream at them, a lot. In fact I know for a fact that if I went too long without yelling at them they would do things specifically to get me to yell at them. And that is why I’m no longer a guildmaster…and the kids don’t know where I am…I hope (please god be merciful)
