So am the only one that a few weeks after the so called expansion came out, looked around and said, “So… is that it?” I swear there were Outland content patches with more playable content that WotLK had. Sure the zones were massive and packed with quests, but quests have zero replayability except for dailies, and most of the daily quests in LK are rather underwhelming. The only one I really looked forward to each day was trying to fry the dragons in under two minutes which I consistently failed, because I am old and slow. Even rep griding, which has always been a secret pleasure of mine, was boring. Hell, I hit exalted with Cenarion Circle just by grinding in Silithus before they made it easy. That was like having a full time job.
“How was work today?”
“Not bad, I killed the Twilight Prophet twice.”
“That’s nice dear, dinner’s ready.”
“Smoked Desert Dumplings again? Can’t we have meatloaf just once?”
Um, where was I? Oh yeah, the rep grinds… boring. And the raid content was like diet raiding. Naxx has
15 bosses! Yeah, bosses which have been in the game for two years now. Frankly Blizzard’s claim that they were retuning the instance because so few people got to see it didn’t impress me. They fucked up and put it in the game too close to the Outland expansion, making it the bulk of the new raid content in an expansion they’re charging for is bullshit. I found most of the new class abilities to be underwhelming as well. The only thing that impressed me in LK was the new pvp zones and world areas.
Compare the raid content of the two expansions at launch:
Burning Crusade: Karazhan, Grull’s Lair, Magtheridon’s Lair, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, and Mount Hyjal.
Lich King: Naxxramus, Vault of Archavon, The Obsidium Sanctum, The Eye of Eternity
So BC has 4 large instances and 2 small ones with 28 total bosses. LK drops 1 large instance (that you could successfully pug almost as soon as you hit 80) and 3 small ones for a total of 18 bosses, 15 of which have been in the game for two years. Wow Blizzard, way to pull out all the stops!
And before you respond with some pissy comment about how you can fight all the drakes at once for an achievement and better loot, or you can can kill Malygos in under 5 minutes for another achievement, and blah blah fucking blah.
Blizzard is using achievements to make you enjoy playing the same content over and over, so they can provide you with less while still charging the same price. Hey, I fell for it myself. I spent hours running around doing boring ass shit in the game just to check off little boxes on a list, but it got boring fast.
The only thing really big in the expansion was the addition of death knights, and they fucked up big time there. I’ll explain why next time.

I have a small theory on the reason why the LK was launched the way it was as well with the content it was.
The biggest changes in the 3.1 patch that’s coming is pve - healing regen getting kicked in the teeth pvp - balancing and well more big ass balancing.
Why would blizzard release all new content only to have it smacked through like nothing due to imbalancing on their part. Same with pvp gear in the respects of weapons they admitted they didn’t think kt il 226 weapons would be so common therefore they didn’t put deadly gladiator weapons in to match. Why? Because it’s not all balanced yet.
The raid content and S7 has been just one big test and balancing act for blizz to run numbers across. Hopefully things will be different from 3.1 on.
PS looking forward to the dk article! Grip should not be able to affect flag carriers! WSG matches with more than 5 dks on one side should just instantly end…

Hrhr, you should be really happy that you started late, farming the content makes you dull! Dont know if you have looked into Ulduar, but i recommend that you look into it, sounds good so far
also i want to defend a little Sartharion 3D, we started with zero drakes, and we have been like WTF one drake up :S after some work and working up the drakes it becomes MUCH harder, its a very dynamic fight and every guild can find a way how to bring him down differently, funny thing is that sarth3d - 10man is the hardest.
but overall you are correct, the raid content is very small for an addon :/

Ummm, you missing the point….. Naxx is kara, OS & Maly is gruul and Mag (Tier 7 = Tier 4)
The next content patch will bring us Tier 8 gear and the equivelent of SSC & TK
The patch after that will be Tier 9 and the eq of Hijal & BT
The launch of Wrath gave us a kara equivelent which you are able to pug…. great, more content coming with the next patches (That you dont have to pay for)

dear lord i hate DKs. they are the rodeo ass-clowns of WoW right now…hunters rejoice
5 Darraxus // Apr 1, 2009 at 10:20 am
Last I checked, Hyjal was not in at launch. Hyjal and BT both were implemented in another patch.
6 Amarek // Apr 2, 2009 at 1:31 am
No, Hyjal was in at launch, but practically unreachable. It’s easy to say: BC had more content at launch, but realistically you’re wrong. When BC launched, Kara was hard content, I mean really hard. Nightbane was nearly unbeatable, so was Illhoof. The rewards were really bad, most heroic blue items were better than Naxx loot (somehow people don’t remember the huge item overhaul that was 2.1). Kara after 2.1 was only a watered down version of the original. The same goes for every other raid instance launched with BC.
Most guild didn’t even step a foot into SSC or TK due to the extensive keying process. Those who did were greeted by overtuned boss encounters, 20 minute trash respawns and content blockers. Vashj was only defeated by two guild before 2.1 and it was rumored to be an exploit kill and Kael’thas was never defeated before 2.1, so no guild ever reached Hyjal before 2.1.
Memory’s a tricky thing. No one seems to remember how badly tuned the content was. Guilds were breaking up over Gruul, because he was too tightly tuned. It took several hotfixes before he became managable and only after 2.1 he became the pushover most people experienced. Do you remember that you had to use a flask, 2-3 different elixirs, weapon oil and buff food to defeat SSC bosses pre 2.1? I don’t think so.
Wrath is a breath of fresh air in that department (well more a breath of stale air for everybody who did Naxx at 60 ;))
Nostalgia is remembering the nice things, not the true things.

Hyjal was in but you weren’t near to getting to it because of all attunments and also it was an reciurment for BT (killing the lich).

@ Amarek +1 quality comment
Weird thing is, I do feel what ARL is feeling.
9 Selfshot // Apr 4, 2009 at 2:47 am
Even removing Attunements was a big fail.. Those were kinda prepping ppl in to the zones they were about to go in. Right after they removed attunements there were like tons of ppl who never had the dicipline or raiding and stamina enough for BT or MHj raiding.
With the removal of attunements raider quality went to bottom.

I wonder how they will come up with content quickly enough to keep everybody challenged. Right now guilds are working to keep their members interested and engaged long enough for Ulduar to come out. What’s after Ulduar and will it be out soon enough to keep us from going through this lull in activity again?
11 Flourpot // Apr 6, 2009 at 6:52 pm
Completely agree with Selfshot. The attunements were the discipline to the raid itself. The brackets have changed. Everyone raids. And most of them suck. And the majority of them are in BoE blues or Epics you can buy on the AH for next to nothing due to profession competition. After a month of the bullshit grind for head and shoulder enchants, I got bored and rolled an alt. How surprised I was to find that all the elites that used to kick my ass were not elites anymore. And all the little quest items you needed to find were not so hidden with a great, glowy ? hanging over them. I don’t know about you guys but I’m about ready for a challenge. And it’s not Sarth3D. Screw Sarth and his 3 fucking friends! I want to pull my hair out trying to prevail with a group of excellent players, not win with a group of fucktards.
12 lethalnl // Apr 9, 2009 at 2:14 pm
agree on the whole to little content thing….but MH wasnt playable in 2.0
the only thing i found enjoyable in northrend is sarth3d
rest of the achievements are just retarded
im looking forward to the ulduar hard modes, since there will be a hell of a lot of em
and they didnt fuck up dk’s, their a fun class to play
but due to blizz error their totally OP

Don’t forget the 2 world bosses that BC had as well when you add up boss totals.
I am a bit bummed at how watered down things were this time but nothing was ever perfect and if you think even one thing was perfect, you haven’t asked enough other players what they felt.
14 Jirschi // Apr 14, 2009 at 1:48 am
Tomorrow hopefully Ulduar goes live and i sure hope the bosses are ass kicking hard :S
15 Palidang // May 10, 2009 at 4:47 am
” total of 18 bosse”
correction 36 bosses, they actually put in double the work u think they did, they had to tune instances for 2 different difficulties, and you could fight more raid bosses in one week then u could in bc, do your counting right
16 Ronboar // May 30, 2009 at 5:39 pm
@Palidang
Yeah because Doing all raids on 10 man and THEN 25 man afterwards won’t be the final piece of evidence to show the world that you are a 100 % retard?
- Back on topic.
They fucked it up - I can’t really put my finger on it but wow turned from WOW into not-so-wow.
It just dawned on me some day it’s the friggin same over and over again. Nothing has changed since Diablo 1, “Hey this is the monster from level 3, they just painted it blue!”
I think the main thing for me is that there is just so much grinding I must do to get effortless epics. Earlier the game had a build in a blocker for endless grinding (for sane people anyways). You couldn’t gear up anywhere than 25 man instances (or 40) so you had to wait until next raidday. And you would find a guild that raided the amount of days that fitted your demand.
Now there are argent tournament for your alts, fishing for all, Hodir for everybody and so on and so forth.
It’s just too much of the same lameness. When you kill differnt coulored mobs 3 times a week in a raid, you don’t feel like it’s the same over and over again. When you do argent torunament on 3 different characters every day it’s just lame.
And don’t get me started on pugging endgame instnces - shouldn’t happen - ever - full stop.
It’s been a few good years, but frankly it’s just no fun anymore…

Shut down the website man, youre washed up. Time to let people who still play this game take over… youre all tapped out.

I’m still here. And there are a few more things I plan to rant about. I’m just busy with other stuff right now and I suspended my account a few months ago, so I’m not in a posting mood right now. Sorry if it pisses you off anon, I wasn’t aware that my little blog was taking up so much of the Internets.

Dude. March. Thats all Im sayin.
Enough has happened in WoW that you likely dont even know how the game is currently being played.
Remember Maddox? Maddox who? Oh yeah. That guy who doesnt update. No one remembers him anymore either.
21 anon // Jul 20, 2009 at 12:33 am
Also: @ Flourpot:
No offense to those who went through “the grind” pre patch x.x.x, but isnt it a little trite to make posts about how easy the game is now? Isnt that… sorta whining? No. It is, infact, whining. “Whaahh… mobs that were elites when I did it, arent anymore”… who cares? Your self worth should not be docked in the slightest because a game that you neither admin, nor own, changed some rules. There’s no “Whiny Ex-Raider” buff that you can apply to yourself, so let it go.
